Gallo Notes:04/23/08

By: Magnolia Tribune - April 24, 2008

Gallo Notes- Imagine Speaker Pelosi passing legislation to prohibit all government oriented advertising like the Army or Air Force because Fox News disagrees with her. Well, you don’t have to imagine. The move to go back to the Un-Fairness Doctrine is real and it has its supporters lodge firmly in Congress as well as the House of Representatives of Mississippi. In response to the honorable Senator John Horhn’s blog, The Ad Man, Marlboro Man & St. Elsewhere:Unfinished Business, just a few words-a lot more later.
Speaking for my Program only, I think Speaker McCoy and his liberal power base of the Yellow Dogs plus the Black Caucus are exactly why we’re at the bottom of the good and the top of the bad in just about every list that’s flashed across the media. Mr. McCoy has proven that again this past Session with the needless death of bills like HB 520. His arbitrary decision to not recognize a member of the House unless it’s his Chairman is a slap in the face of every voter whose representative is not a McCoy appointee.
That said, it takes quite a bit of gall to kill an entire agency that hands out checks to people who are experiencing a family crisis just to get even. The more I think about this Gestapo tactic, the more astounded I am. Please understand that if you participate as a caller, or if you’ve made a call to your legislator in response to the Program, YOU are included in the effort to silence. It’s not only the host-your voice must also be erased from the airwaves.
There are several erroneous points that should be clarified as to the public awareness announcements heard on the MSNet News Network. I’m more than happy to address that anytime on the air during “Open Lines”. The reason government agencies, both State and Federal choose radio is because, as a vender radio delivers an incredible bargain to targeted audiences whether it’s a “buckle up” campaign or “disaster relief”. There’s nothing new about government agencies using media to deliver messages to the citizens to make them aware of bulletins or services available. What is new is the attempt by elected officials to use their power as a silencing tool when someone disagrees with their politics. That’s downright scary.
Whether the media form is pamphlets, TV, radio, billboard or internet banners, the “need” should be left to the agencies so the media competes in the marketplace. That’s what we’ve done, and in the process provided an incredible vehicle to deliver targeted public awareness messages to the public. So there you are; two things that liberals don’t appreciate-criticism and competition.
