Now is not the time for legislature to give themselves a pay raise
A legislator should be motivated by policy interests, not career goals or financial reward. Allowing a pay raise at this time would move us in the wrong direction – toward a professional class of politicians.
As of today, all provisions relating to legislative pay raises have been stripped out of HB 859, for good reasons. Mississippians can now rest in the discomfort of this thought: Its elected legislators will neither starve nor unduly profit.
