A Jackson crematorium has reportedly been dumping bones and ashes in a 55-gallon barrel, and no one will take responsibility for prosecuting or even say who should enforce the law, or if there is a law being broken? That’s absurd.
But Hinds County sheriff’s deputies were called last week to Mark Seepe Funeral Directors & Crematorium after The Clarion-Ledger called Jackson Police Chief Malcolm McMillin about finding bones and ashes in a trash bin in the Seepe parking lot.
The office of Attorney General Jim Hood was notified and supposedly is investigating. The state Funeral Board has referred questions to Hood’s office.
If the allegations are true, there is some question as to what, if any, law is broken. Hood spokeswoman Jan Schaefer said Monday that “there is little in state law that addresses the disposal of human remains.”
