Does former police chief still work for Jackson?

By: Magnolia Tribune - March 31, 2008

The Clarion-Ledger, 3/31/8

Former Jackson Police Chief Shirlene Anderson apparently has been working for the city since mid-January, although she still is not on the city payroll.

Council members are unaware of Anderson’s work status, based on a poll of several members. The council will have to approve payroll after her personnel paperwork process is completed.

Two weeks ago, the city administration said little about Anderson’s professional relationship with the city when council members asked whether she worked for the city.

Rick Hill, director of city administration, and Robert Walker, chief administrative officer, wouldn’t provide details about her work status.

“She is not on city payroll,” both Hill and Walker told council members repeatedly at the meeting, without clarification.

Anderson was removed by Mayor Frank Melton as police chief in November. Her salary was $114,000 a year.
