Senate deletes some raises

By: Magnolia Tribune - March 25, 2008

The Sun Herald, 3/25/8

The Senate passed a House bill Monday that would give raises to elected officials, but it removed the provision that would have given legislators, the governor, attorney general and other statewide elected officials higher pay.

The Senate removed several provisions of the controversial House pay hike. The House and Senate would have to agree on the bill before it could head to Gov. Haley Barbour.

Senate Fees and Salaries Chair Terry W. Brown, R-Columbus, told the Senate some legislators might not be happy with having their pay raises removed, but the bill had to be voted on to stay alive.
