Go vote!: Tuesday, Mississippians get their say

By: Magnolia Tribune - March 10, 2008

The Clarion-Ledger, 3/10/8

These are heady days for Mississippi voters. For the first time in many years, presidential contenders are earnestly rubbing shoulders with state voters and at least on the Democratic Party side of the March 11 primaries, Mississippi matters!

We encourage our fellow Mississippians to go to the polls Tuesday and exercise their right, their duty to vote. Voting is a right that has been defended on the field of battle in times of war and won in the streets during America’s struggles for universal suffrage and civil rights.

On Sunday, The Clarion-Ledger made its endorsement in the primary elections. Endorsements represent the opinion of The Clarion-Ledger Editorial Board and are offered not to tell people how to vote, but as information to aid readers as they make their own voting decisions.

In the Democratic presidential primary, we believe U.S. Sen. Barack Obama is the best choice. He gives Democrats their best shot for the White House and he has the ability to inspire Americans at a time when it is so needed. In the Republican presidential primary, U.S. Sen. John McCain is the presumptive nominee of his party and his Mississippi roots make him familiar with the state, its citizens and its needs.
