Attorney pursuing prior Scruggs case

By: Magnolia Tribune - March 6, 2008

The Sun Herald, 3/6/8

Attorney Roberts Wilson wants a judge from outside Hinds County to preside over a lawsuit he is reviving because he believes legal nemesis Dickie Scruggs bribed the previous judge involved.

Roberts Wilson reached a confidential settlement with Scruggs in 2006 in a dispute over fees earned from asbestos cases. The settlement came after rulings from Circuit Judge Bobby DeLaughter limited what Wilson could recover. But Wilson learned earlier this year two attorneys who represented Scruggs in the lawsuit say DeLaughter was bribed through a friend and mentor.

Wilson filed a motion Tuesday asking the chief Mississippi Supreme Court judge to appoint a special master who would preside over the decade-long case, which was never officially closed. Wilson plans to pursue sanctions against Scruggs and any other appropriate relief, the motion said.
