Dems look to woo Mississippi voters before primary

By: Magnolia Tribune - March 5, 2008

The Clarion-Ledger, 3/5/8

Democratic presidential candidates Barack Obama and Hillary Rodham Clinton are increasing efforts to woo Mississippians a week before voters head to the polls.

The state’s Democratic and Republican presidential primaries are Tuesday. Obama, a U.S. senator from Illinois, began running ads in the state last week. Staffers also started organizational meetings across Mississippi.

The campaign for Clinton, a U.S. senator representing New York, will announce some activities in the next couple of days, senior adviser Burns Strider said.

Clinton and Obama have been invited to speak at the state Democratic Party’s 26th Annual Jefferson Jackson Hamer Day Dinner on Thursday in Canton. As of Tuesday, neither had confirmed they would attend.

State Democratic Party Chairman Wayne Dowdy said results of Tuesday’s primaries in Texas and Ohio would influence the candidates’ plans.
