Neshoba Democrat Editoral on MS 3rd

By: Magnolia Tribune - February 21, 2008

At the Catfish Opry

The bales of hay on the smooth, cement floor near the stage, the American flag, the smell of fried catfish, iced tea and the fellowship up and down the long rows of tables were all a prelude to one of the most substantive forums yet in the race to fill the seat being vacated by U.S. Rep. Charles W. “Chip” Pickering Jr.

The most pointed question of the evening went to David Landrum, the Madison businessman and developer, when he was asked about a $1,000 campaign contribution to Democrat Gov. Ronnie Musgrove in 2003.

Musgrove was being challenged then by Republican Haley R. Barbour.

Four of the leading candidates for the slot in the U.S. House of Representatives in Mississippi’s Third Congressional District met at the Catfish Opry here on Feb. 11 for the political forum.
