Suspect’s death underscores need for justice in ‘Burning’ case

Time is running out for justice in the Ku Klux Klan’s killings of three civil rights workers in 1964, family members say.

That point may have been driven home with the death of Jimmy Arledge, whose death recently in Meridian at the age of 70 reduced the number of living suspects to five.

The FBI is investigating more than 100 killings from the civil rights era, but the June 21, 1964, abduction and killings of James Chaney, Michael Schwerner and Andrew Goodman in Neshoba County are not among them.
