Barbour proposes level funding for most agencies

By: Magnolia Tribune - January 25, 2008

WMCTV, 1/24/8

Few state agencies get a budget increase under Gov. Haley Barbour’s spending recommendations for next fiscal year.

Barbour says the tight budget reflects the state’s tight revenue situation. State economist predict slow revenue growth in coming months. That means agencies that have asked for more money in their budgets, likely won’t get that for the fiscal year beginning July 1.

Lawmakers released their spending proposal in December. It also recommended mostly level or reduced funding.
