Spokesman: “Lott to Resign This Week”
The spokesman for U.S. Sen. Trent Lott, Lee Youngblood, said Tuesday that Lott plans to end his 35-year career in elected office either Wednesday or Thursday.
Gov. Haley Barbour will appoint a successor to serve until a special election is held next year.
Lott, the Senate’s second-ranking Republican, announced Nov. 26 that he would resign by year’s end.
