City budget solution at hand

By: Magnolia Tribune - November 21, 2007

The Clarion-Ledger, 11/21/7

The city of Jackson’s budget shortfall technically has been fixed, officials said Tuesday.

Rick Hill, director of finance, said money within the water and sewer budget that was dedicated to the purchase of heavy equipment, water meters and professional services such as consulting, can be used to cover a $2.9 million revenue shortfall in the fiscal 2008 budget.

Council members were told about the findings at Tuesday’s meeting and will further discuss with Hill, Melton and bond attorneys on Monday how the money was found. Council members must approve all transfers of funds within the budget.
