City could save $80K yearly

By: Magnolia Tribune - November 12, 2007

The Clarion-Ledger, 11/11/7

financial accountability and integrity task force started in August by the city of Jackson could save taxpayers at least $80,000 annually, city officials said.

The task force has crafted a comp-time policy that could help control overtime and successfully pushed to get an ATM placed inside the Police Department for those who need quick cash to pay fines. The comp-time policy is awaiting the mayor’s approval, and the city has been pushing to collect on past-due fines.

Mayor Frank Melton said he formed the unit because he believes government can be more efficient if it’s better organized.
