Cory Wilson for House District 66
October 23, 2007
Campaign Update #15
Cory Wilson: Running on Ideas and Pro-Growth Leadership
Cory’s Opponent: Running from His Anti-Business Record
With just two weeks to go until Election Day, the choice in House District 66 is clear. Cory Wilson will bring new leadership to the House of Representatives. Cory Wilson is the fiscal conservative in the race, and Cory’s pro-growth leadership is what Mississippi’s economy needs.
Cory will hold the line on government spending. Cory will support lower, simpler taxes. Cory will fund priorities like education to support economic development.
Cory’s opponent, on the other hand, is running from his anti-business record. When a politician wants to shift focus away from his actual voting record, there’s a reason.
Ø When we needed his leadership on tort reform, Cory’s opponent repeatedly voted with Speaker McCoy for the trial lawyers, and against tort reform.
Ø Cory’s opponent voted to create a state Department of Labor—unnecessary bureaucracy that would bring more government regulation and make it harder for businesses to compete. (Amendment No 1 (Cmte Sub) to H. B. No. 1379, 2007 Regular Session)
Ø Cory’s opponent voted to hike unemployment benefits, despite concerns about the effect of the increase on the Unemployment Trust Fund and workforce training funds. Had it passed, the increase supported by Cory’s opponent could have led to higher employer payroll taxes. (H. B. 296, 2007 Regular Session)
Ø Cory’s opponent was rated “Anti-Business” in 2004 and 2005 by the Business/Industry Political Education Committee (BIPEC). In 2006 and 2007, he received only a “Marginal” rating. BIPEC bases its ratings on actual votes, and it rates all legislators the same way.
On the issues business and industry care about most, Cory Wilson is the pro-business choice in District 66. That’s why Cory has been recommended by BIPEC, the Mississippi Manufacturing Association, the Mississippi Association of Realtors, the Mississippi Chapter–Associated Builders and Contractors, and the National Federation of Independent Businesses.
