Pickering has 5-point plan for auditor’s office

By: Magnolia Tribune - September 26, 2007

The Sun Herald, 9/26/7

Pickering, a Republican elected to the state Senate in 2003, sees the auditor’s office as one of the most critical to good government. As auditor, he believes he can foster an environment of accountability that will attract business to Mississippi. He faces Democrat Mike Sumrall, who’s worked more than 20 years in the auditor’s office, in the November general election.

Pickering is offering a “contract for accountability” that includes five points: Performance audits that will allow government to operate more effectively and with less duplication; a partnership with local elected officials to provide more training and offer resources on available grant money; an increase in audits of public agencies, including more timely audits; greater use of technology, such as paperless audits; and a partnership with school districts to ensure funding is fair and balanced.
