MISSISSIPPI MEDICAL ASSOCIATION ENDORSES PICKERING FOR AUDITOR
LAUREL – State Senator Stacey Pickering, candidate for State Auditor, received the endorsement of the Mississippi Medical Association today.
“When the state of Mississippi ended frivolous lawsuits through comprehensive tort reform, I stood as a strong advocate for our doctors and hospitals in the Legislature,” Pickering said. “As your next state auditor, I’ll continue to fight for common sense solutions to our problems.”
Pickering noted the importance of community hospitals to the wellbeing of Mississippians’ health care. “My hometown of Laurel is one of many examples of Mississippi towns that rely on a community hospital. The doctors and professionals that work in these hospitals are the bedrock of healthcare in our state, and they deserve an environment free of frivolous lawsuits in which to practice medicine.”
Pickering also cited his record as pro-business legislator. “Hospitals and businesses across our state need leaders that are well-versed in economic development strategies. As Chairman of the Local and Private Committee in the State Senate, I have had the opportunity to be intimately involved in the remarkable expansion of Mississippi’s economy in the last four years.”
In 2007, Pickering had a rating of 95 by the Business and Industry Political Education Committee (BIPEC), making him one of the five most pro-business Senators in Mississippi.
“The state auditor’s office is critical in maintaining our momentum forward as a state,” Pickering said. “We must continue to fight for accountable, efficient spending to save taxpayer dollars and to ensure Mississippi is always ‘open for business’ for our hospitals.”
Pickering, his wife Whitney, and their four children reside in Laurel.
