AG: Convicts can hold office

By: Magnolia Tribune - August 13, 2007

The Clarion-Ledger, 8/12/7

If two circuit clerks convicted of felonies prevail in their runoffs Aug. 28, they can keep their office until they are sentenced, according to the state attorney general.

But one of the clerks, in a case prosecuted by Attorney General Jim Hood’s office, has been punished but won’t be sentenced.

Binky Vines Jr. of Adams County and Burnell Harris of Jefferson County led their races in Tuesday’s Democratic primaries, based on unofficial returns. Both were indicted before the March 1 qualifying deadline.
