Election ’07: Issues to broaden now

By: Magnolia Tribune - August 13, 2007

The Clarion-Ledger Editorial, 8/12/7

With the Nov. 6 general election now less than three months away, Mississippi voters are beginning to focus on the major issues that will confront them in choosing the state’s political leadership for the next four years.

During the party primaries, voters saw candidates debate mostly narrow differences on key issues.

But over the next three months, voters will begin to hear messages with broader contrasts as partisan differences emerge. Voters should expect the mass media messages to become even more shrill and strident during the general election stretch run than in the primaries.
