When Gov. Haley Barbour took a cheap shot at the “trophy wife” of Democratic foe John Arthur Eaves, Barbour stuck his hand in a hornet’s nest with a lot of Mississippi women.
As reported from the recent Neshoba County Fair, here’s what Barbour said after introducing his wife, Marsha, to crowd applause: “That’s right, I got my trophy wife the first time.”
Minutes before, the 40-year-old Eaves (who since has become Democratic gubernatorial nominee), had spoken from the same platform and was sitting in the audience with his attractive younger wife, Angel, whom he married after a divorce from his first wife.
