The Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal, 7/13/7
Bryant and Ross, vying to win the Republican Aug. 7 Republican primary, made separate appearances Friday before the Daily Journal editorial board. The primary winner will face state Rep. Jamie Franks, D-Mooreville, in the Nov. 6 general election.
During the past two sessions, Ross was a key senator in blocking the efforts of Republican Lt. Gov. Amy Tuck to lower Mississippi’s grocery tax, which is the highest state-imposed tax of its kind in the nation, and to increase the cigarette tax, which is the third lowest in the nation. He said the two issues should not have been linked.
