Look for more sham ‘issue ads’ after Supreme Court’s ruling

By: Magnolia Tribune - July 6, 2007

The Clarion-Ledger Editorial, 7/6/7

Mississippi got a taste of the new radical-right bent of the U.S. Supreme Court a week ago when the court by 5-to-4 virtually disemboweled the 2002 McCain-Feingold campaign finance law, signaling doom for this state’s own modest campaign finance regulatory efforts.

Especially does the new high court ruling cast doubt on Mississippi again challenging such high-powered, vested interest groups as the U.S. Chamber of Commerce which in 2000 bankrolled TV ads for selected candidates in the state’s judicial elections without disclosing sources of the money or its recipients.
