Memo to Ike Brown: Discrimination against whites illegal, too

Much of Mississippi’s history in the 1960s was written in the blood of African-American Mississippians who were beaten bloody, burned out and in some cases even murdered simply for seeking to exercise their right to vote.

Last week, in a first-of-its-kind case anywhere in the nation, Judge Lee said Justice Department prosecutors established that in Noxubee County, the civil rights and voting rights of white Mississippians must likewise be protected from the African-American political power structure.
