But during the two years since Melton’s July 4, 2005, inauguration, his accomplishments have been less than obvious.
Crime still is the hot-button issue, with violent crime up 42 percent over last year. The mayor and City Council are not working together. Jackson faces a $3.9 million budget deficit. And Melton has spent a lot of time in the courtroom fighting for his freedom.
