Nearing the end of his seventh four-year term, Martin faces a serious challenge. Denson has managed to throw the chief into a runoff after pulling into a 34-vote lead during the June 12 elections. Denson had 1,394 votes to Martin’s 1,360 among the tribe’s 4,717 registered voters. Four other candidates also ran.
The winner will be sworn in July 10.
