Clerks: Overpaid system open for corruption
According to the state auditor, 55 of Mississippi’s 82 chancery clerks exceeded $100,000 in pay in 2006. Two clerks took home more than $200,000 – well above Gov. Haley Barbour’s $122,160 salary.
