State Auditor Phil Bryant believes recent charges against 10 people who attempted to steal Hurricane Katrina relief money will deter more theft.
After the indictments were publicized in the media, Bryant said Tuesday during a meeting at the Sun Herald, his office received calls from people who wanted their applications for federal-grant money cancelled and returned. Bryant’s office refused to return the applications. He suspects some of them will prove fraudulent.
