The good news is that after using all of his vast influence at the Capitol in killing a grass-roots effort to raise Mississippi’s ridiculously low cigarette tax during his first term, Gov. Haley Barbour this week told The Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal Editorial Board that he would consider an increase in the cigarette tax during a second term if that hike was part of an overall package that provided “a significant tax cut” for Mississippians.
