The Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal Editorial, 4/30/7
It was obvious Friday there was no communication going on during the special session called by Gov. Haley Barbour to consider an incentive package to lure a PACCAR power train manufacturing and assembly plant to the Columbus area. Washington-state-based PACCAR builds Peterbilt and Kenworth trucks.
Yet, the Senate adjourned after passing its legislation without ever considering the House bill.
The result was, despite the agreement, the House having to take the Senate bill or else there would be no incentive package to lure the $300 million plant, employing 500 people, to the Columbus area.
