U.S. Rep. Bennie Thompson, who is being criticized for taking a spring break trip to resort destinations, is just one of dozens of lawmakers who circle the globe at taxpayer expense every year on official trips that are expected to become even more popular.
He led a delegation of 10 lawmakers – eight Democrats and two Republicans – to Mexico, Honduras and the Virgin Islands, where the group stayed at the posh Caneel Bay Resort in St. John. Thompson’s wife, London, and the spouses of two other lawmakers went along.
