Special session: House right to be angry

Senators were waiting for the House to take up the package when state Rep. Steve Holland, D-Plantersville, offered an amendment to add $10 million for a burn center. The Senate just passed its bill and went home, a legislative insult.

Mississippi desperately needs the care, but no funding has been provided for one at University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson.

Mississippi has shipped burn victims to surrounding states since the state’s only center in Greenville closed in 2005 for lack of funds.

The development project is good news, but tarnished by the inability of the governor and Senate to address an immediate need.
