Ross Qualifies for Lt. Governor
JACKSON, Miss. – Conservative State Senator Charlie Ross (R-Rankin County) officially qualified for the office of Lt. Governor on Tuesday.
Ross, a Senate Republican Leader, will formally kick off his campaign with a statewide tour after the 2007 legislative session is completed on April 1st of this year.
Ross has demonstrated a broad base of support in the campaign’s initial phase. His cash-on-hand of $835,106 at the end of 2006 gives him a $300,000 advantage over any other candidate in the Lt. Governor’s race.
“Today I am focused on getting the job done at the state capitol,” Ross said. “The people of Senate District 20 elected me to serve them as their State Senator, and that is exactly what I am going to do. There will be plenty of time for campaigning once the tough decisions have been made in our state capitol.”
Ross has been the author of important legislation such as the comprehensive Tort Reform Law, the Castle Doctrine Law, and Jessica’s Law. This year, Ross is the primary sponsor of the most prominent proposed new “sunshine” ethics law – a bill requiring disclosure and oversight when the state hires outside private law firms.
“I pride myself in being a workhorse in the State Senate,” Ross said. “The people of Mississippi need leaders who will roll up their sleeves and get things done and that’s what I intend to keep doing.”
Ross, a Webster County native, has served as a State Senator from Rankin County for the past 10 years. His current Senate District includes parts of Rankin and Madison Counties. He is married to the former Sharon Ray and has three sons, Andy, David, and Stephen.
