Second suspect in abduction turns himself in
The second suspect wanted by police in the shooting and abduction of 11-year-old Amber Scott this month turned himself in at Jackson Police Department headquarters Thursday morning, JPD spokesman Robert Graham said.
Carlos T. Brown, 25, is being held without bond at the Hinds County Detention Center in Raymond. Brown is charged with kidnapping, aggravated assault, house burglary and shooting into an occupied dwelling, records show.
Gilbert Ewing, 25, was arrested Monday and faces the same charges. He also is being held without bond at the Hinds County Detention Center.
“We are very pleased,” Chief Robert Moore said. “It was a matter of time before we caught him. Now, everyone can get settled down. We don’t think there’s anything else out there.”
Ewing and Brown are accused of bursting into Amber’s home on May 10 and shooting her as they demanded to see her uncle, Courtland “Fat” Scott, police said. One of the men grabbed Amber and tried to drag her away from her 869 Monterey St. home.
Amber broke free, ran a couple of blocks and hid in a car that was parked in a homeowners driveway, police said.
