House rejects 700 billion dollar bailout bill
The US House of Representatives on Monday rejected a 700-billion-dollar Wall Street bailout bill, throwing efforts to calm the financial crisis rocking global markets into turmoil. Sworn Republican opponents of the legislation and rebel Democrats combined in a tension-wracked House vote to defeat the legislation by 228 votes to 205 votes. AFP 9/29/8
