Coach Orgeron speaks about joining Saints
http://www.houmatoday.com/article/20080601/OPINION01/650535297/1103/sports&title=Coach_Orgeron_speaks_about_joining_Saints
After spending 23 years coaching on the collegiate level, Ed “BeBe” Orgeron is now in his first season coaching on the NFL level, with his hometown team, the New Orleans Saints.
Orgeron, who was a standout lineman at South Lafourche High School, has coached seven defensive linemen (Warren Sapp, Cortez Kennedy and Russell Maryland at Miami (Fla.), and Kenechi Udeze, Mike Patterson, Sedrick Ellis and Lawrence Jackson at USC), who went on to become first-round draft picks.
He says the road to the NFL was something he never would have thought about as recently as six months ago.
“I had a few opportunities to leave college football and go to the NFL when I was at USC, but I had my heart set on being a college head coach. But coaching at the NFL level was something in the back of my mind that I always knew I would do. I just didn’t think it would be in 2008 and certainly not with the New Orleans Saints,” Orgeron said.
