Ex-Seattle RB Alexander to visit Saints

The Saints will bring in free-agent tailback Shaun Alexander for a visit this week, a sign that they're still in the market for some insurance in case Deuce McAllister is unable to return to form.
Alexander, 30, was released by the Seattle Seahawks last month after two disappointing, injury-plagued seasons. The former league MVP and three-time Pro Bowl player was scheduled to make his first free-agent visit with the Cincinnati Bengals on Monday.
Saints General Manager Mickey Loomis confirmed Alexander's visit, but he declined further comment. McAllister said he wouldn't be surprised or opposed if the Saints add another tailback before training camp.
"I anticipate they'll continue to look at veteran running backs," McAllister said. "They have to have some protection just in case there are any setbacks with my rehab, even though there haven't been any. It never hurts to have a Plan B."

Jacksonville State showing interest in dismissed LSU QB Perrilloux
http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=3384451
Jacksonville State coach Jack Crowe has spoken to the family of former LSU quarterback Ryan Perrilloux about a possible transfer to an FCS team with no scholarship quarterbacks on the roster. Crowe said Tuesday he also had a lengthy discussion with LSU coach Les Miles, who kicked Perrilloux off the defending national championship team after repeated off-the-field problems.
"Les was very kind to spend quite a bit of time explaining the situation to me," Crowe told The Associated Press. "He's very optimistic about him being a successful player and a successful student-athlete."
Crowe said Miles felt Perrilloux arrived with expectations to play as a freshman, but that opportunity diminished.
Perrilloux, who instead was a backup to JaMarcus Russell and Matt Flynn, can transfer to a Football Championship Subdivision team such as Jacksonville State without having to sit out a year. The Gamecocks' 2007 starter, Cedric Johnson, was kicked off the team after the season for violating team rules.

After 1,581 days in a row, 12-year-old David Witthoft has hung up his jersey.
He finally removed the Brett Favre jersey he's worn since his dad gave it to him for Christmas in 2003.
The young Green Bay fan is planning to attend the Packers game Sept 8, when the team retires Favre's No. 4.
His mom had washed the jersey every other day.

Top 10 Biggest Liars In Sports History
http://ownmyteam.com/blog/biggest-liars-in-sports-history/
Lets face it, lies in sports are nothing new to us. In fact, they’re everywhere in our sports today. And in most cases, fans and the media understand that they are being lied to. A coach, lets say, sometimes tells a big fib about a trade that’s in the works in order to throw everybody including the other teams off the trail and ensure that a trade can actually happen. Such lies get a free pass from the fans and most media. We realize we have been lied to and it’s business as usual.
But here are my all-time the top 10 among sports biggest liars. The people on this list have achieved elite status among the worlds biggest liars and con men, and we honor them below— well, sort of — for their ability to believe that we will believe what they say:
10. NICK SABAN
Nick’s Truth: The Miami Dolphins’ coach repeated publicly and emphatically to anyone who would listen, "I’m not going to be the Alabama coach!"
Was It A Lie?: YES! He is the Alabama coach. It’s not I blame him for leaving. But just be straight with us. Did he really think we wouldn’t find out in the end?

NCAA forces coaches to take a break
http://www.palmbeachpost.com/dolphins/content/sports/epaper/2008/05/06/a1c_coaches_0506.html
An NCAA rule passed in January forbids college head coaches from recruiting on the road from April 15 to the middle of May. Combined with the 2007 rule banning text messaging, coaches like Meyer have found themselves stuck on campus, watching film, sending e-mails and handwriting letters.
"It's the first time ever I think I haven't been out recruiting," Meyer said before a booster gathering in Jacksonville last month. "My poor wife, my poor secretary, my poor coaches. That's just not a good rule."
Meyer said he was "crushed" when the rule was passed in January, but he understands why it happened. During those six weeks in the spring, college head coaches and their assistants were not allowed to speak with recruits beyond a quick "hello."
