Liberal Democrat Mike Espy appeared on state-run TV in the Ivory Coast, serving as “an English-speaking mouthpiece for the regime.”
Espy spoke on behalf of dictator Laurent Gbagbo, who lost the 2010 election but refused to concede to his opponent, ordering extrajudicial killings, torture and rape of his political opponents, according to the U.S. State Department.
Despite repeatedly lying to the media in the past few days, Espy was paid a total of $750,000 for his work for the dictator, according to Foreign Agents Registration Act documents that Espy signed – under penalty of perjury – that can be viewed here.
“That’s not just liberal; it’s radical,” said Melissa Scallan, spokeswoman for Cindy Hyde-Smith’s campaign. “This is not the kind of person Mississippians want representing them in the U.S. Senate.”
