Today, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce has again endorsed Republican Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith in her race to retain her seat against Democrat challenger Mike Espy. The Chamber also endorsed Hyde-Smith in 2018 in the special election race to fill the unexpired term of the late Senator Thad Cochran.
The organization has been active in political races in Mississippi over the years and has regularly done ad buys, polling and other advocacy work for pro-business candidates. It has also been active in judicial races both for and against candidates where tort reform is an issue.
“In difficult times, we are reminded of the importance of having leaders that understand the genius of the American system of government and free enterprise and who are willing to tackle the hard problems that confront our nation,” said U.S. Chamber CEO Thomas J. Donohue. “As our country faces many challenges and is collectively working to not just reopen our economy, but return to growth and expanded opportunities for all Americans, we need leaders like Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith. She has a proven track record of leading responsibly and standing up for good policies. The U.S. Chamber is proud to endorse Cindy and looks forward to partnering with her in the future.”
A poll conducted for Y’all Politics by Impact Management Group in May shows Hyde-Smith with a sizeable lead over Espy.
Hyde-Smith defeated Espy in the special election runoff in late November 2018 by a 53.6% to 46.4% margin.
