WJTV – Trump could return to Mississippi
President Donald Trump might return to Mississippi to campaign for a Republican U.S. senator who’s facing a Democrat in a runoff.
The White House is looking at holding a rally in Mississippi before the Nov. 27 runoff, but plans were still not definite on Wednesday. That’s according to a person with knowledge of White House thinking who is not authorized to speak publicly.
Republican Sen. Cindy Hyde-Smith faces Democrat Mike Espy, who is a former U.S. agriculture secretary.
Sen. Hyde-Smith cosponsors bill on pre-existing conditions
I’m cosponsoring the Ensuring Coverage for Patients with Pre-Existing Conditions Act. Regardless of the details on how any Obamacare replacement package is written, coverage for Mississippians with pre-existing conditions will be protected. SUNHERALD – Democrats eye US Senate seat in Republican-led Mississippi
National Democrats are focusing on Mississippi’s U.S. Senate runoff, a year after winning a longshot contest in another Deep South state dominated by Republicans.
Democrat Doug Jones defeated Roy Moore in Alabama last December after Moore was hit by accusations of sexual misconduct…
…Former Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour, who led the Republican National Committee in the mid-1990s, is raising money for a super PAC supporting Hyde-Smith. He said Tuesday that she is a reliable vote for President Donald Trump and Espy would not be.
Barbour said it’s important for Hyde-Smith to pick up votes from people who supported Chris McDaniel, a tea party-backed Republican state lawmaker who received about 16 percent and placed third last week.
“Most of the McDaniel people thought McDaniel was more conservative than Cindy Hyde-Smith and they see what Doug Jones has done in Alabama and they have no reason to believe that this wouldn’t be the exact result in Mississippi if we elected a Democrat,” Barbour told AP. “I think those people will vote and when they vote, they will vote for Cindy Hyde-Smith.”
CLARION LEDGER – Historic lynching photo used in new Hyde-Smith attack ad after “public hanging” comments
A political action committee supporting U.S. Senate candidate Mike Espy has released a video online showing Espy’s opponent in the Nov. 27 Mississippi runoff race, Sen. Cindy Hyde-Smith, superimposed into an old photo of a white crowd attending the lynching of two black men.
The ad by the group PowerPACPlus is a reference to a comment Hyde-Smith made at a Nov. 2 campaign rally in Tupelo. In praising a supporter at the end of the rally, she said she would “fight a circular saw for him,” then stated: “If he invited me to a public hanging, I’d be on the front row.”

Angel Myers McIlrath of Ocean Springs will take over a district attorney for the 19th district beginning next year. She is filling the seat left by Tony Lawrence, who was elected to a seat in the Mississippi Court of Appeals. Governor Phil Bryant announced the appointment Wednesday afternoon.
The 19th Circuit Court District encompasses Jackson, George, and Greene counties…
…“Angel has loyally served the people of the 19th Circuit Court District for over a decade, and I am pleased she has accepted this appointment as District Attorney,” Gov.
