In a Special Meeting held Tuesday, the Mississippi Public Service Commission unanimously voted to approve a rate decrease for Mississippi Power customers.
The action is a result of the Commission ordering a rate case to reevaluate rates for Mississippi Power Company.
Mississippi Power residential customers can expect to see a $2.50 decrease per 1000 kilowatt hour (kWh) used on the next billing cycle.
“I’m excited to see another decrease for Mississippi Power customers particularly during these times of uncertainty,” Chairman Dane Maxwell, Southern District Commissioner, said. “We will continue to work with every company across the state to ensure affordable, reliable service for customers in Mississippi.”
This rate reduction is the second rate decrease since from Mississippi Power since January.
The PSC also issued a letter calling on mobile telephone carriers and satellite providers to remove data caps. Commissioner cite the need for students and workers to be able to work remotely during the coronavirus pandemic.
Northern District Commissioner Brandon Presley tweeted the letter, noting that CSpire, TMobile and Sprint have already acted on their request.
