The Mississippi Association of Educators (MAE) is proud to announce our final endorsements for candidates seeking statewide office this November. MAE’s PAC, the MAE Fund for Children & Public Education, has elected to endorse Rep. Jay Hughes for Lieutenant Governor, former Hattiesburg mayor Johnny DuPree for Secretary of State, and Jennifer Riley-Collins for Attorney General.
The non-partisan endorsement process begins by inviting candidates to complete a policy questionnaire. Upon submitting the questionnaire, candidates are then required to participate in a sit-down interview with members of MAE’s PAC. The PAC’s interview committee is comprised of certified teachers, education support professionals (ESPs), higher education faculty members, and retired educators from across Mississippi.
“This is an incredibly important election and we are thrilled to support this slate of candidates. Each has a deep understanding of the critical needs facing our state’s public education system and believes in the power of investing in Mississippi’s students and schools,” said MAE President Erica Jones.
“We know that Rep. Hughes, Mayor DuPree, and attorney Jennifer Riley-Collins will stand with and fight for the more than 90% of Mississippi children who attend our state’s public schools as well as the educators who nurture those children,” she continued. “Mississippi deserves state leaders who will join us as we continue to demand more for our students, our schools, and our communities.”
The Mississippi Association of Educators is composed of Mississippi’s elementary and secondary teachers, higher education faculty and staff, educational support professionals, retired educators, and college students preparing to become educators. MAE is the oldest and most powerful education association in the state. Our fundamental objective is to work for improved salaries, benefits, and working conditions for all education professionals, as well as for the betterment of the Mississippi public education system.
