Cameron Newton investigation escalates
The official word from Auburn officials regarding quarterback Cam Newton’s eligibility has become, “No comment.”
Auburn athletic director Jay Jacobs told media members Friday that is the university’s official position on Newton’s eligibility heading into Saturday’s game against Georgia, despite coach Gene Chizik’s adamant statements earlier this week that Newton is eligible.
Maintaining that position may be getting harder still. According to WSBTV.com, the website of an Atlanta-area television station, Cecil Newton, Cam’s father, admitted having conversations with a former Mississippi State player about receiving money in exchange for Cam’s commitment to the Bulldogs.
