NBC and SurveyMonkey recently released a web poll of the Southern region that analyzed the potential outcome of the elections in November.
The Mississippi portion of the poll was conducted among 1,152 adults over the age of 18. Of those, 985 are registered voters. The online poll was not randomized but started from a sample of those wanting to take the poll and subsequently weighted.
According to NBC, there’s about a 4.3% margin of error in the survey.

In Mississippi, 25% of those surveyed leaned toward Democrat Mike Espy to take retired US Senator Thad Cochran’s seat over incumbent Cindy-Hyde Smith. She holds 24% of the vote according to the poll, leaving Republican challenger Chris McDaniel at 19%, democrat Tobey Bartee at 4%, and 1% didn’t answer. That still leaves 27% undecided–and those undecided could sway the election.
Mississippi voters also showed 52% approval of President Donald Trump and 46% disapproval.
The regional web-based poll surveyed voters all across the Southeast. Of the Alabama, Mississippi, and Tennessee voters surveyed, over 50 percent in each state said they would vote Republican.
However, it should be noted that polls of this type are typically far less reliable than random voter sample polls.
