It’s About the Quarterbacks, and It Always Has Been

More than any of their Super Bowl teammates, Peyton Manning and Drew Brees will duel for the property rights. One will be considered to have won, the other to have lost. Such is the quarterback’s bonanza and burden. Coaches also deserve ownership or censure, but other players are mostly remembered for having earned, or having missed an opportunity for the ring.
How many people know that linebacker/defensive end Charles Haley,playing for the 49ers and the Cowboys, won a record total of five Super Bowl rings? But anybody worth his or her flat-screen television knows that Joe Montana and Terry Bradshaw each won four Super Bowls. And that Jim Kelly lost four.
