Pete Carroll confirms he’s leaving USC to become Seahawks head coach
Pete Carroll has confirmed that he is leaving USC to join the Seattle Seahawks as head coach.
Carroll told the L.A. Times that he considered the Seahawks a perfect job in the NFL, where he coached in 1993 for the Jets and from 1997-99 with the Patriots.
“I had given up on it,” Carroll told the paper of going back to the NFL, “but it came out of nowhere.”
Carroll will replace Jim Mora after nine seasons leading the Trojans, for whom he won two national titles and made into the premier college football program in America.
He told the Times that he is not leaving USC because of the specter of looming NCAA sanctions.
“Not in any way,” Carroll said. “Because I know where we stand. It’s just a process we have to go through. We know we’ve fought hard to do right.”
