Report: Pete Carroll pursuing Norm Chow as offensive coordinator

Pete Carroll is pursuing Norm Chow to be part of his staff should he be hired as Seahawks coach, according to Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune. Why is someone in Chicago chasing that news? Well, Jeremy Bates — a member of Carroll’s coaching staff at USC — is a potential candidate to come to work for the Bears. He previously worked with Jay Cutler, now Bears quarterback.

But we’re getting off track because the important news here is Chow, currently the UCLA offensive coordinator under Rick Neuheisel. Chow previously worked with Carroll at USC where he is largely credited with the transformation of Carson Palmer’s college career, which resulted in a Heisman Trophy. Matt Leinart won the Heisman while Chow was coordinating, too. He left for the NFL where he served as Jeff Fisher’s offensive coordinator with the Titans when Vince Young excelled his first season.

But Chow’s exit from USC is still a cause for contemplation. We now turn to Husky reporter extraordinaire Bob Condotta, who included this tidbit in a profile of Steve Sarkisian written last year:

“The perception among many in L.A. is that Carroll helped force Chow out to make room for the return of Sarkisian — Chow ended up with the Tennessee Titans. The relationship between Chow, now the offensive coordinator at UCLA, and Sarkisian has been rocky since.”
