Standing at a meager 5 feet 9 and 170 pounds, Dexter McCluster has always bristled at the notion that his small frame might not be able to handle the pounding of 15 to 20 touches per game.
“I want that football any way I can get it,” he said after a recent practice. “I know I’m small, but I’m stronger than I look.”
But six games into the season, the multitalented McCluster is still waiting for his wish to be granted. Instead of seeing his workload increase as a senior, his touches are on track to fall both as a receiver and as a running back when compared to a year ago.
