Mississippi State, Southern Miss may be renewing football rivalry

The long-awaited pairing of Southern Miss and Mississippi State on the football field could soon be a reality by week’s end.

The two sides are in negotiations for the Bulldogs and Golden Eagles to meet in a home-and-home series within two years.

A press conference is scheduled for Thursday in Jackson.

USM Coach Larry Fedora, left, and MSU Coach Dan Mullen could be facing each other on the football field if the two in-state schools can come to an agreement to renew the rivalry.

“We’ve had on going conversations with them,’’ Southern Miss athletic director Richard Giannini said. “Greg Byrne (MSU athletic director) and I have talked.”

“Greg would not be talking if there weren’t any interest.’’
