MEMPHIS — Chris Maloney doesn’t hesitate when he’s asked, essentially, where this is all going.
“I want to get to the big leagues and manage,” said Maloney, the Jackson native who manages the Triple-A Memphis Redbirds.
After nearly two decades managing in the minor leagues, he’s close – and at the same time, so far away.
Shortly before two p.m. on a recent afternoon at AutoZone Park, he fried four eggs on a stove in the corner of the clubhouse. Two for him, two for a player. He ate them with some toast and the bacon he fried a few minutes earlier.
