In football, the SEC is known as a speed conference. To hear Kentucky coach Billy Gillispie talk, the conference might have the same type of reputation on the hardwood.
“This league is quite a bit different than the ones I’ve been in because of the style of play,” said Gillispie, who coached in the Big 12 before taking the Kentucky job and has also worked in the Big Ten. “The teams in this league really do the best I’ve seen in spreading you out. I think when people talk about our league sometimes, we don’t always (have) two 6-10 guys down in the paint, but they make it very difficult to play two big guys because the 3-point shot is so prevalent in everyone’s offense and they usually have four guys out there who can shoot it.”
